The complaint we hear most from this pocket is a door that reverses right before it touches the floor, or won't close at all once the temperature drops hard. In a climate band this cold, that's almost always a safety sensor problem, not a spring problem, and it's more common on doors from the mid-1990s because the sensor brackets from that era are simpler and easier to knock out of true when a slab shifts in a freeze.
The other common one is a spring that lets go on the first really cold morning of the season. Steel loses some of its give at low temperature, and a spring that had another six months left in a mild winter can snap on a night that drops hard, especially on a door installed when this area's houses were being built through the 80s and 90s. Neither of these is a sign anything was done wrong originally - it's just what happens to torsion hardware at this age in a cold-severe climate. If it's happening on a newer opener installed in the last few years, that's a different conversation, and we'd want to look at the whole unit rather than assume it's the same wear-and-tear issue.
